PS 102
Mural Project
.In October 2010, the idea of a collaborative effort to help a local school began to form. Eight months later, 450+ volunteers from eight community groups and five sponsors joined the principal, PTA, students, and staff to execute an 875-square foot mural for six weeks. We all celebrated with a schoolyard block party on June 4, with inflatables, dance contests, sing-offs, a DJ, food, and more, attended by 1,500 neighbors of every age, race, and religion.

What was beautiful about this mural is that it required the whole community. The Storefront played a primary role in securing artists, coordinating supplies, and raising and processing funds. Thanks to all the volunteers who gave of their time and talents to bring beauty and to PS 102 as they welcome kids from over 40 different nationalities!
